Mondelēz International

#4

Most plastic polluting company

Annual plastic footprint:

NOT DISCLOSED

Mondelēz is one of the world’s largest snack-food companies, with key brands including Belvita, Oreo, Ritz, TUC, Toblerone, Cadbury, Green & Black’s, and Trident. It was ranked as the 4th worst polluter in 2019 but has not disclosed its plastic footprint, unlike almost all the other brands analysed.

Despite being one of the worst polluters, Mondelez International’s commitments towards tackling plastic pollution are limited and unambitious. They do not disclose current levels of recycled content, focus mostly on recyclability, and have a recycled content of just 5%. Concerningly, they are also looking into chemical recycling, an environmentally dubious technology, to meet recycled content targets in some packaging.
