Coca-Cola’s U-turn

The fight for a deposit return system in Scotland exposed the sneaky behind-the-scenes tactics of the industry, and the strategy by Coca-Cola to ‘fight back’ against such systems in Europe.

From regular meetings with senior government officials to co-opting environmental groups, the entrenched position of industry giants, such as that of Coca-Cola, was only reversed following the release of leaked documents in 2017 which exposed their two-faced behaviour.
